Privacy Policy
Last updated 27 October 2026
- We keep your WhatsApp number with the location and language you chose, so the bot remembers them.
- We count the messages the bot answers. We don't keep what you wrote.
- Voice notes are sent to OpenAI to be turned into text, then discarded by us.
- We never sell your details or use them for advertising.
- Email [email protected] to see or delete what we hold.
Who we are
Zmanim on WhatsApp ("we", "us") answers questions about zmanim on WhatsApp and runs this website. We are responsible for the personal information described here. Contact us at [email protected].
What we keep when you use the bot
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your WhatsApp number and the location you chose (place name, map coordinates, time zone) | So the bot gives times for your place without asking each time | Until you send location reset or ask us to delete it. Your number is removed after 12 months without using the bot. |
| Your WhatsApp number and the language you chose | So replies come in your language | Until you ask us to delete it. Your number is removed after 12 months without using the bot. |
| A record of each message answered: your number, the type of request (for example "zmanim", "menu" or "flight") and the time | To see how many people use the service, and to show sponsors how many people it reaches (as totals only) | Your number is removed after 12 months without using the bot (sooner if you ask). The rest is kept only as anonymous totals. |
We do not store the text of your messages, your voice notes, your name or your WhatsApp profile picture.
When we remove your number, it is replaced with a random code that can't be traced back to you, so what's left (types of request, times, places and languages) is anonymous. If you message the bot again later, you start afresh.
What we keep when you use this website
If you fill in the "Become a sponsor" form, we keep the name, email, phone number and message you enter, so we can reply to you. We delete it when you ask, or when it's no longer needed. The website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we're allowed to use it
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), we use your information because you asked us to: to answer your messages and remember your settings, and to reply to a sponsorship enquiry. Counting usage is in our legitimate interest in running and funding the service, and only totals are ever shared.
Who else handles it
We use these services to run the bot and the website. Each only gets what it needs:
| Service | What it gets |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp (Meta) | Your messages, as with any WhatsApp chat. Meta's own privacy policy applies to WhatsApp. |
| Supabase | Stores the information above, on servers in London. |
| OpenAI | Voice notes you send, to turn them into text. Processed in the USA. |
| Hebcal | Map coordinates of places outside Stamford Hill, to calculate the times. Never your number. |
| AeroDataBox | A flight number and date, if you ask about a flight. Never your number. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website. |
Where information goes outside the UK, such as voice notes to OpenAI in the USA, it is protected by the safeguards those providers offer under UK data protection law.
Sponsors never see who uses the bot. They only see the totals we choose to share, such as the number of people reached.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and send you a copy
- correct it
- delete it
- stop using it
Email [email protected] from any address and give your WhatsApp
number; we may ask you to confirm it's yours by WhatsApp. We'll reply within one month. You can also send
location reset to the bot at any time to remove your saved location yourself.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The service is open to everyone, and we keep the same small amount of information for every user. If you're a parent and want your child's details removed, email us.
Changes
If we change what we keep or who handles it, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
